Link+ Guidelines

Link+ logo

Currently, only books can be borrowed through LINK+.

Check our Library's online catalog before using LINK+. If SFPL does not own the book, or if all our copies of the book are unavailable, you may request a copy from LINK+ if one is available.

You will not be able to initiate a LINK+ request if you have:

  • a restricted card
  • a visitor card
  • overdue fines or materials

Each LINK+ request or transaction is counted as a HOLD on your library record. You may have a total of 15 holds.

There is no charge to request or borrow LINK+ materials. The average waiting time for a LINK+ request is four (4) days. You will be notified by U.S. mail, e-mail, or telephone when the book has arrived. Books will be held for ten (10) days; if you do not claim them, they will be returned to the lending library.

Please do NOT remove the LINK+ information band from the book at any time. When you are finished with the book, please return it to any San Francisco Public Library service counter — do not put LINK+ books in any book drop.

A LINK+ book may only be renewed once for an additional 14 days. You may renew a LINK+ book at any SFPL location or through the Library’s website. (Sorry, LINK+ books cannot be renewed by telephone at this time.) Items that are overdue might not be eligible for a renewal.

Regular library fines and fees are charged for delinquent materials:

  • Adults 10 cents a day
  • Senior Citizens 5 cents a day
  • Children and Teens—no fines

For lost LINK+ books, replacement charges are $115 payable to the lending library.

Borrowers can monitor the status of their LINK+ requests through their My Millennium library record.

For questions about LINK+, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Program at 557-4406.
