China Boy Author Gus Lee Kicks Off One City One Book EventsSan Francisco — Author Gus Lee will participate in a series of special events to encourage discussion of China Boy, his compelling 1991 novel about life as a young Chinese American boy living in San Francisco’s tough Panhandle neighborhood during the 1950s. China Boy is the selected reading for San Francisco’s new One City One Book: San Francisco Reads program. Among the program highlights: Lee will read and sign books on Sept. 27 at the newly renovated Excelsior Branch Library, talk about his life in San Francisco with the San Francisco Chronicle book editor on Oct. 26 at the Main Library and do a lunchtime reading on Oct. 27 at Book Passage-Ferry Plaza, among many others. Also, visit the One City One Book web site for additional resources at www.sfpl.org/news/ocob/onecity.htm Launched in June, One City One Book is a citywide reading initiative developed to encourage all residents to read and discuss the same book. Gus Lee in conversation with Oscar Villalon – Join us for an in-depth conversation between Gus Lee and the San Francisco Chronicle Book editor about Lee’s experience growing up in San Francisco and becoming an acclaimed writer.
Lunchtime Reading – Gus Lee will read from China Boy and sign books at Book Passage’s San Francisco store.
