The James C. Hormel Gay and Lesbian Center of the
San Francisco Public Library presents
Midnight at the Palace
Sweet Pam’s Life as a Fabulous Cockette
San Francisco – Although 1972 marked the last performance of the Cockettes, San Francisco’s glitter-rock drag theatrical troupe, the interest in the group remains strong.
Pam Tent, a.k.a. Sweet Pam, in her newly released book Midnight at the Palace: My Life as a Fabulous Cockette recounts the behind-the-scenes tales of being apart of the radical theatrics and sexual androgyny that was the Cockettes.
Sweet Pam will take the stage once again at the San Francisco Main Public Library on Saturday December 11, 2004 and will share rare slides, video and audio footage from her days as a Cockette.
Reviews of Tent’s book are positive and complement the humor used to juggle a huge cast of characters while also providing her audience with a nostalgic trip through San Francisco's gender-bending heyday. Despite their short lived 2 year run, the
Cockettes’ continue to influence the arts, gay politics and spiritualism, fashion and urban culture and lifestyle.
Don’t miss Sweet Pam and her stories at 3:00 p.m. in the Koret Auditorium at the Main Library (100 Larkin Street, at Grove, SF). Copies of Midnight at the Palace: My Life as a Fabulous Cockette (Alyson Books) will be available for sale and signing.
