Library Hours Hearings
Community participation wanted

Public hearings will be held in the Main Library and each of the Branch Libraries from mid-September through mid-October. The purpose of the upcoming public hearings is to discuss the results of a survey of user preferences as to library hours for the Main and each branch library conducted by the Library in association with David Binder Research, and otherwise to learn from the public which open hours at each facility best serve the needs of library users. At the conclusion of the public hearings, the Library Commission will establish library service hours for the 5-year period beginning January 2005.

Legislation approved in 1994 established the Library Preservation Fund (“Prop E”), a special funding source for library operations. The Charter Amendment establishing the Library Preservation Fund requires that the public hearing process be repeated at five year intervals. Current hours of operation were approved by the Library Commission in late 1999 and implemented in 2000.
