On Oct. 3, the Resource Collection for Learning Differences of the San Francisco Public Library kicks off Developing Minds, a seven-part video series offering parents, guardians, educators and childcare providers tools and techniques for teaching elementary and middle-school age kids important life skills and study habits. The hour-long videos cover a variety of topics, such as honing organizational skills, improving reading skills, and learning to relate to others.

The first in the series, “Getting Organized and Having Good Work Habits,” focuses on teaching students how to develop good work habits. Techniques on how to prepare for schoolwork, organize and manage time and energy, and develop effective study skills will be discussed. The video will also examine common organizational problems that many students face.

All video programs begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Latino/Hispanic Community Meeting Room on the lower level of the San Francisco Main Library. After each video viewing, there will be a question and answer forum with Carol Kocivar, ombudsperson for Special Education Services of the San Francisco Unified School District.
