125 Days and Counting
The San Francisco Public Library celebrates 125 years of Tradition*Enrichment*Connection
San Francisco – The San Francisco Public Library is preparing for its 125th birthday on June 7, 2004.
In anticipation of the event, an official countdown ticker has been added to the Library’s Web site. February 4 marks 125 days until the big celebration.
During the 125 day countdown and as part of this historic celebration, the Library will collect memories and sentiments from the public. The expressions may
be published on the Library’s Web site, in an anniversary book or for other publicity purposes.
Library users and supporters are encouraged to share their library stories in 125 words or less. Official entry forms
can be obtained by visiting any San Francisco Public Library or online at www.sfpl.org. “Libraries are known for their collections of stories and the 125th
Anniversary is a perfect time to engage our users to help us build a community memoir about the Library,” said Susan Hildreth, San Francisco City Librarian
“The Library has served the Bay Area for 125 years, there’s bound to be some great personal memories; we want to hear, document and share them with generations to come.”
Exhibitions, neighborhood walks, history programs in the branches and Main Library, children’s birthday parties, preparation
of an historical timeline, and a grand culminating event at noon on June 7 are all part of the plan.
Please visit www.sfpl.org or call 415-557-4277 to learn more about the event details.
All programs at the Library are free and open to the public.
