Reversing Vandalism

Horea

The vandal's act was not so much against the form, the physicality of the book, as much as the content of the books. The books are archived in the Library following the Dewey decimal system. Doing various searches having as keywords gay, lesbian, feminist and AIDS subjects, I came up with a large number of CALL NUMBERS. For each call number I used a different type of font reiterating various fonts used for the typesetting and printing of different books. I created an “anonymous” book that symbolizes each of the books vandalized. The cover, as form, and the title are the sum of all the call numbers, while the BOOKMARK stands as a metaphor for the subjects contained in the vandalized books.
