RENOVATION - POTRERO BRANCH

As part of the bond measure overwhelmingly passed by the voters in November 2000, the San Francisco Public Library is renovating the Potrero Branch Library. We plan to make it seismically safe, fully accessible and technologically updated, while retaining its community charm.

Renovation highlights include an expanded second floor with City views, new accessible restrooms, a program room with after hours access for community meetings, new elevator and stairs, a variety of seating choices, more computers and wireless access to the internet, a designated Teen Area, and maximum use of natural light including a new central atrium and skylight.

The branch is scheduled to close for construction in early 2008 and will re-open in 2009. During the renovation, library services will be provided by the newly opened Mission Bay Branch Library (located at 4 th & Berry), holding programs at neighborhood centers and by bookmobile service.

The Potrero Branch is also included in the Branch Library Improvement Program Arts Master Plan. The Potrero Branch Community Artist Selection Panel chose Gina Telcocci, a sculptor who creates three dimensional artworks with plants and other natural materials, to create a piece of art for the renovated branch.
