As part of the bond measure overwhelmingly passed by the voters in November 2000, the San Francisco Public Library is renovating the Eureka Valley/Harvey Milk Memorial Branch Library. We plan to make it seismically safe, fully accessible and technologically updated, while retaining its community spirit.

Renovation highlights include a small addition, new accessible restrooms, improved public and staff spaces, a designated Teen Area, a quiet reading area, more computers, better lighting, flexible spaces for programs, and new furniture, shelving, and materials displays.

The branch closed for construction on March 1, 2008 and will re-opened in 2009. During the renovation, library services were provided by holding programs at neighborhood schools and community centers and by bookmobile service. Closing was delayed due to design issues, complications arising from the bidding, contracting or permit process, or other matters.

The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library are raising funds from private donations for new furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the branch library. For information on the Eureka Valley neighborhood campaign, contact marian.ctaylor@friendssfpl.org.
