RE: Recommended Library Closure during Migration
DATE: July 15, 2003
The SFPL Millennium Migration Group, working with the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Implementation Team, has identified key migration events. We have planned the sequence and duration of these events to have minimal impact on our service to the public.
August 20 – 21: Output and load bibliographic, item and authority gap files
August 22 - 23: Output and load patron gap files; disable all patron self-service features
August 23: Stop circulation on DRA
August 23 – 24: Output circulation transactions and holds
August 23 – 25: Conduct offline circulation for checkouts only
August 25 - 26: Load circulation transactions, offline circulation transactions, holds
August 27: Begin online circulation on Millennium
We recommend that that the Library close to the public on Monday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m., all day on Tuesday, August 26, and on the morning of August 27, with all facilities opening at 1 p.m. on August 27. On Monday, August 25, the following facilities would be closed from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Chinatown, Excelsior, Mission, Sunset, West Portal and Western Addition. On Wednesday, August 27, the following facilities would be closed until 1 p.m.: Main, Chinatown, Excelsior, Mission, Ocean View, Richmond, Sunset, West Portal and Western Addition. Main opens at 9am and the branches open at 10am.
During the morning of August 27, staff will continue to review and resolve transaction load error reports; cut-over to new web pages; test circulation screens, OPAC displays and links, receipt printers and self-check screens. Since offline circulation will not process holds, no checkins will be done during offline circulation. The morning of the 27th will also be used to process checkins and holds. We are developing public information regarding the closure that will be widely distributed.
Staff recommends that the Commission authorize the recommended closure.
