WHEREAS, the San Francisco Public Library Commission is pleased to express its GRATITUDE , as well as to RECOGNIZE, HONOR, and COMMEND the generous gift of his painting, “Authors of Latin American Roots,” which renowned San Francisco artist ENRIQUE CHAGOYA has made to the beautification of San Francisco’s Main Public Library; and
WHEREAS, the many artworks created by ENRIQUE CHAGOYA, a highly respected San Francisco artist, have significantly enriched the cultural life of our City and in this work contributed significantly to heightened awareness of the importance and value of the many significant works of Latino and Latin American authors, Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cartazar, Luisa Valenzuela, Jorge Amado, Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Isabel Allende, Alejo Carpentier, Jose Marti, Lydia Cabrera, Jose Lezama, Lima, Jorge Icaza, Manlio Argueta, Miguel Angel Asturias, Roberto Sosa, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Carlos Fuentes, Elena Poniatowska, Octavio Paz, Rosario Castellanos, Ruben Dario, Claribel Alegria, Cesar Vallejo, Mario Vargas Llosa, Rosario Ferre, Sandra Cisneros, Ana Castillo, Gloria Ansaldua, Mario Benedetti, and Romulo Gallegos, whose names are inscribed on the canvas, to the cultural life of San Francisco, and indeed the entire world; and
WHEREAS, the San Francisco Public Library Commission will SALUTE ENRIQUE CHAGOYA, an outstanding exemplar of the high ideals of professional achievement, personal character, and community leadership at its regular meeting on March 4, 2004; Now,
Therefore, Be It Resolved that the SAN FRANCISCO PUBLIC LIBRARY COMMISSION in RECOGNITION and HONOR of his generous gift of his mural painting, “Authors of Latin American Roots,” to the Main Library, do hereby RECOGNIZE, HONOR, AND THANK
