Notice of Meeting


A regular meeting of the San Francisco Public Library Commission will be held as follows:

Date: Thursday, June 17, 2004
Time: 4:00 PM
Place: Koret Auditorium, Main Library, lower level

The meeting will be called to order.

  • 1. PUBLIC COMMENT
    (This item is to allow members of the public to comment generally on matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for the Library Commission’s consideration.)

  • ACTION 2. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
    Presentation of, discussion of, and possible action to approve the Minutes of the regular Commission meeting of May 20, 2004.

  • DISCUSSION3. BOND PROGRAM MANAGER’S REPORT
    (This is a discussion item to allow the Branch Library Bond Program Manager to report on recent bond program related activities and make announcements.)
    This report will consist of an informational presentation: none regular reports: program budget and schedule; active projects; and community outreach; and special reports; construction report and a Western Addition Branch update.

  • DISCUSSION4. POE UPDATE REPORT
    Presentation of and discussion of the status of Main Library Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) Report related improvements.

  • ACTION5. PRIVACY POLICY
    Presentation of, discussion of, and possible action to approve a Library Privacy Policy to safeguard the privacy of all library users and preserve confidentiality of information sought or received, and materials consulted, borrowed, or received.

  • ACTION6. TRIBUTE TO THE CITY LIBRARIAN
    Presentation of and discussion of and possible action to approve a resolution commending and thanking City Librarian Susan Hildreth for her dedication, hard work, and principled leadership during her service as San Francisco City Librarian.

  • ACTION7. COMMENDING RETIRING LIBRARY STAFF
    Presentation and discussion of and possible action to approve certificates honoring the decades of exemplary and outstanding public service provided by retiring Library staff members: Carol Coon; Pat Hall; Marilyn Thieme; and Margaret Wyatt.

  • DISCUSSION8. CITY LIBRARIAN SEARCH PROCESS
    Discussion and possible action to contract with an executive search firm and to establish an Ad Hoc Search Committee of the Library Commission that will establish a selection process, including possibly contracting with an executive search firm, review applicants, recommend candidates for the Library Commission to consider as nominees to the Mayor for the position of City Librarian, and report regularly to the Commission at Commission meetings.

  • ACTION9. CLOSED SESSION
    a. Public Comment on matters appearing on the closed session agenda item. (A separate comment period will be afforded for each closed session item)
    b. Vote on whether to hold closed session (i) PERSONNEL MATTER-PUBLIC EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT- ACTING CITY LIBRARIAN pursuant to Government Code Section 54957 (b) and (ii) CONFERENCE WITH REAL PROPERTY NEGOTIATOR pursuant to Government Code section 54956.8:
    Property: Fuhrman Bequest Lands, 78.12 acres of desolate land outside Bakersfield in Kern County, CA, identified as Assessor's Parcel No. 093-031-03.
    Person Negotiating: Carl Watkins, Carolina Aquino, Arvin, CA 93203
    Under negotiation: terms and conditions of playing field lease
    c. Discussion and possible action to nominate candidate(s) to Mayor
    d. Discussion and possible action to recommend approval of lease subject to approval of Recreation and Park Commission and conditional use permit from Kern County
    e. Vote on whether to disclose any or all closed session discussions

  • ACTION 9. ADJOURNMENT
    (requires motion and public comment)
