- DISCUSSION4. CITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
by City Librarian Susan Hildreth (This item is to allow the City Librarian to report on recent Library activities and make announcements)
The City Librarian will report on the following subjects: the Library 125th Anniversary; a Prop. E (Library Preservation Fund 1994) lawsuit; status of the Branch Library Improvement Program Advisory Committee; the Friends of the Library lease; a BALIS Advisory Board vacancy; the Mission Branch lobby reconfiguration; Chinatown Branch carpeting; and exhibits and programs.
- DISCUSSION5. LIBRARY 2004/05 BUDGET REPORT
Presentation of, discussion of an update report on the Library’s proposed 2004/05 Budget.

Presentation of, discussion of, and possible action to approve a Library Privacy Policy to safeguard the privacy of all library users and preserve confidentiality of information sought or received, and materials consulted, borrowed, or received.

- ACTION7. RESOLUTION HONORING DR. KEVIN STARR
Presentation and discussion of and possible action to approve a resolution
to commend and honor Dr. Kevin Starr, recently retired California State
Librarian and former San Francisco City Librarian for his decades of leadership and service on behalf of California’s public libraries.

DISCUSSION8. BALIS UPDATE REPORT
Presentation of and discussion of an update report by Library BALIS (Bay Area Library and Information System) Advisory Board Representative Deborah Doyle.
- ACTION9. CITY LIBRARIAN SEARCH PROCESS
Presentation and discussion of a process to identify and select candidates for the position of City Librarian and possible action to authorize the Library’s Director of Human Resources to select a professional executive search firm using one of three firms pre-qualified for use by City Departments to conduct the search process for the position of City Librarian.
- DISCUSSION 10. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT
(This item is to allow the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library to inform the Commission of their current and proposed activities.)
- 11. LABOR UNION REPORT
(This item is to allow members of library labor organizations to report on employee matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for the Library Commission’s consideration.)
