To ensure the participation of the disabled public in all Commission public meetings, the following items concerning accessibility will be available:

Individuals with severe allergies, environmental illness, multiple chemical sensitivity or related disabilities should call the accessibility hotline at 415/554-8925 to discuss meeting accessibility. In order to assist San Francisco’s efforts to accommodate such people, attendees at public meetings are reminded that other attendees may be sensitive to various chemical-based products. Please help the City to accommodate these individuals.

Library Commission meetings will be held at the Main Library, 100 Larkin Street at Grove, Lower Level, Koret Auditorium, except when otherwise noticed. The Commission meeting room is wheelchair accessible. The closest accessible BART station is Civic Center. The accessible MUNI line serving this location is the #19 Polk. Please be advised that the Chair may order the removal from the meeting room of any person(s) responsible for the ringing or use of a cell phone, pager, or other similar sound producing electronic devices.

Government’s duty is to serve the public, reaching its decisions in full view of the public. Commissions, boards, councils and other agencies of the City and County exist to conduct the people’s business. This ordinance assures that deliberations are conducted before the people and that City operations are open to the people’s review.

Whereas, on November 7, 2000, the people of San Francisco approved Proposition A, a $105.8 million bond measure, to fund the acquisition, construction and renovation of neighborhood branch libraries and other library facilities; and

Whereas, Proposition A bond funds by law cannot be used to purchase furniture, fixtures, equipment, and materials needed for the new and renovated neighborhood branch libraries; and

Whereas, the Friends & Foundation of the San Francisco Public Library is committed to raising $15 million to purchase the needed furniture, fixtures, equipment, and materials not provided for in the passage of Proposition A (2000); and

Whereas, the San Francisco Public Library Commission wishes to recognize the generosity of the Friends & Foundation and its donors by offering suitable and appropriate opportunities for recognition within branch libraries;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that any and all neighborhood branch libraries of the San Francisco Public Library may display such plaques or other forms of donor recognition as the City Librarian shall deem appropriate to honor the Friends and Foundation and contributors to the Friends & Foundation's neighborhood branch library furniture, fixtures, equipment, and materials fundraising campaign; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the San Francisco Public Library Commission shall review and approve the design and location for such plaques or other forms of donor recognition as part of its review and approval of each neighborhood branch library's construction or renovation plans.
