Notice of Meeting

A regular meeting of the San Francisco Public Library Commission will be held as follows:

Date: Thursday, March 4, 2004 Time: 5:00 p.m. NOTICE DIFFERENT START TIME Place: Koret Auditorium, Main Library, lower level

This special meeting of the San Francisco Public Library Commission replaces the regular meeting which would have begun at 4pm. The regular meeting has been cancelled.
The meeting will be called to order.

  1. PUBLIC COMMENT
    (This item is to allow members of the public to comment generally on matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for the Library Commission’s consideration.)

  2. DISCUSSIONRFID FORUM TIME CERTAIN 6:00pm
    (For the convenience of the public this item will be heard out of order beginning at 6pm)
    Presentation on and discussion of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology and the benefits of and concerns with replacing bar code technology with RFID Technology in the Library System.

  3. ACTIONAPPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
    Presentation of, discussion of, and possible action to approve the Minutes of the regular Commission meeting of February 5, 2004.

  4. ACTIONCITY LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
    by City Librarian Susan Hildreth
    (This item is to allow the City Librarian to report on recent Library activities and make announcements)
    The City Librarian will report on the following subjects: a report on the Public Library Association (PLA) meeting; exhibits and programs; and a report on the implementation of the Strategic Plan.

  5. ACTIONCHAGOYA MURAL RESOLUTION
    Presentation and discussion of and possible action to approve a resolution in appreciation and thanks to Enrique Chagoya for his generous gift of his mural honoring Latino and Latin American writers to the Library.

  6. DISCUSSION FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY REPORT
    (This item is to allow the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library to inform the Commission of their current and proposed activities.)


  7. ACTIONLABOR UNION REPORT
    (This item is to allow members of library labor organizations to report on employee matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for the Library Commission’s consideration.)

  8. NEW BUSINESS
    (This item is to allow Commissioners to introduce new agenda items for consideration.)

  9. ACTION ADJOURNMENT
    (requires motion and public comment)

Additional materials not listed as explanatory documents on this agenda, if any, that are distributed to the Library Commissioners prior to or during the meeting in connection with any agenda item will be available to the public for inspection and copying in accordance with Government Code Section 54954.1 and Sunshine Ordinance §§ 67.9, 67.28(b)& 67.28(d).
