Western Addition Branch Library was opened June 27, 1966 as the 27th branch established in the San Francisco Public Library system. The building was designed
by architects Appleton & Wolfard and built at the cost of $244,000. The newly restored library opened on February 2nd, 2008. The total project cost was $4.3 million.
It features a new and expanded teen area, updated children’s room, a new program room, a landscaped courtyard, more computers and free Wi-Fi access to the Internet.
The renovation also features seismic retrofitting and ergonomically redesigned staff work areas. The Branch occupies a site on the edge of Hamilton Playground
at the corner of Scott Street and Geary Boulevard.
