North Beach Branch Library History

North Beach Branch Library was originally located at 1135 Powell Street; the name of that facility was changed in 1958 to the Chinatown Branch Library. The North Beach Branch Library was relocated to a new building erected at 2000 Mason Street next to the North Beach Playground. The building was completed on December 16, 1958, and was dedicated on February 5, 1959. The branch was opened to the public on February 6, 1959. The building was designed by architects Appleton & Wolfard and constructed by the Martinelli Construction Company at a total cost was $220,627. North Beach Branch Library was the 26th branch established in the San Francisco Public Library system.
