Part of the General Collections and Humanities Center
The Chevron Corporation Teen Center
offers titles that meet the popular interests of teenagers. The collection of
books – including graphic novels – and magazines focuses on recreational reading
for ages thirteen to eighteen. Paperback copies are the most popular format for
all materials. (For curricular and academic needs, teenage patrons may rely on the
adult nonfiction and fiction collections, as well as on juvenile nonfiction
collections.) Current music and films are offered, with formats reflecting
available technologies. Teen materials are offered in English, Spanish and Chinese,
the most commonly-spoken languages among teens in San Francisco. Materials for the
Teen Center are selected from professional review sources, San Francisco Public
Library teen librarian reviews and teen patron suggestions. The
collection is weeded on a continuous basis; this is of
particular importance because of the ephemeral nature of teen popular interests.
