The Tutor/Learner Recognition Celebration

On June 16th we held our annual Tutor & Adult Learner Recognition Celebration in the 6th Floor Gallery of the Main Library.  San Francisco’s not always cooperative weather smiled on us, providing a balmy evening for us to eat and socialize on the outdoor terrace.

As usual, our speakers inspired both cheers and tears.  Stella Baker touched everyone by thanking her tutor Thy Tran for the support which gave Stella the confidence to be this year's master of ceremonies. Deputy City Librarian Susan Hildreth stressed the importance of literacy programs in libraries.  Project Read’s new director Randy Weaver introduced and thanked the staff. Timothy French, Torrance Dominguez and Bennei Blanchard told of their successes.

Project Read staff had an opportunity to award participants for their contributions. Award recipients included:
