After three years of dating, my girlfriend Diana and I decided to tie the knot. After a great wedding with more than eighty people, we left the country for an adventurous and relaxing honeymoon in Costa Rica.
The flight to San Jose International took about seven hours, including a stop in El Salvador. We then transfered flights and got on a twin engine plane headed to Punta Islita, which is exactly what it says in Spanish, a little island.
While there, we stayed at a luxury hotel, and it was so nice! They had a swim-up bar, a view of the ocean on one side, and the rainforest on the other side. While there, Diana and I just unwound from our wedding and long trip, and kicked back on the beach. We stayed three days there, and took tours, including one on horseback.
From there we went back to San Jose to catch another plane, this time to Quepos. There we experienced a quiet jungle setting with a sunset ocean view. This romantic place has a secluded beach and a poolside bar and grill. We saw monkeys, birds, and even three-toed sloths! We spent some time in the rainforest at Manuel San Antonio National Park, which was spectacular! We also went out partying one night, and enjoyed hanging out with the Costa Ricans, dancing to reggae, rap, Spanish rap, and salsa! After dancing, you can actually relax your dancing feet in the ocean, because the club was right on the beach! This was super fun!
From there we went to San Jose, where we stayed for two days. We didn’t really like San Jose all that much. They don’t have that much to offer. We did go shopping, but that was all. The city was big and dirty, and kind of a bummer after all the beauty that we had experienced.
We took a bus ride to Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs, which was nice. I recommend, however, that you not take the bus tour. The ride lasted about 5-6 bumpy, uncomfortable hours with people talking loud and no bathroom. Once you get there, the volcano is cool. We saw hot lava coming from the volcano, and we spent time relaxing at the hot springs. They served us a great buffet dinner, and we headed back. The ride home was only three hours, I guess because it was all downhill.
The next day we began the long journey home. Again, we stopped in El Salvador and then straight to San Francisco. All in all, it was a great honeymoon, and a great way to start our life together!
