Letters About Literature
A Writing Contest for Adult Learners
in California’s Library Literacy Programs
Write a letter to the author of your favorite book. Describe how the book has impacted your life or changed your perspective. The author you choose can be living or deceased.


Prizes
$250 - First Prize
$150 - Second Prize
First and second prize winners will be flown to Sacramento with a companion for a special awards ceremony in the Governor’s office with the First Lady of California, Sharon Davis, and the State Librarian, Dr. Kevin Starr.


How to Enter
Step 1
Choose a book, short story, or a poem you have recently read or listened to as a book-on-tape. It should be a work for which you have strong feelings.

Step 2
Write the author how reading his or her work (name the title) somehow changed your way of thinking about yourself or the world around you.

Step 3
Prepare your letter and the entry form.

Step 4
Mail it. All entries must be postmarked by December 1, 2001.
