In January 2000, the Victorian apartment building where John lived
on Stanyan Street burned down to the ground.

I would like to say a couple of things. First I would like to say thank you to my tutor and friend Vince Lane for letting me stay with him after the fire. Vince let me stay for a couple of months until I found a place. Thank you Vince.
I also would like to say thank you to my boss Sharon Mayard and my coworkers Carol and Josie and the staff and parents. They helped raise money for me to find a place to live.
Guess what? On March 1st, I found a place in the Sunset. It’s only eleven blocks away from my job. I have a mini one-bedroom apartment. I also have a backyard I have to share with a dog called Emma. I have lived at my apartment for six months now and really enjoy it.
I don’t miss my old place on Stanyan Street in Upper Haight that burned down.
Thank you for reading my letter.
