A Letter for a Former Tutor
Alvina Mairs was a volunteer tutor
for Project Read from 1988 to 1996.
April 19, 2001

Dear Project Read,

Thank you for sending your newsletter to me. I read Patricia Earls' article about wanting to change and overcome drugs and alcohol and how valiant she did and determined to read, too.
I cut the article out and sent it to my grandson to show him how other people can change their life and overcome drugs and alcohol.
I am sure it will make him feel that he can overcome his problem. He sure wants to.
I am so glad Patricia Earls wrote to you and told of her battle. It makes us all feel proud of her.

Sincerely,
Alvina Mairs
A Past Tutor

Calling All Writers

We want to encourage all learners to write for the newsletter. Even if you are a beginning reader you can write a sentence or two. You don’t have to write a fancy story; just write something simple that interests you. Your tutor will be glad to help you.

Math Class
• Do you struggle with math?
• Are you working towards your GED?
• Do you get stuck when working with large numbers?

If you answered 'Yes!' to any of these questions, Linda Noftle can help. Starting Wednesday, September 12, Linda will offer a weekly drop-in math class from 6-7pm. Bring a goal and an open mind. A goal can be most anything: basic math, fractions, measuring, etc. Linda will help you work through it, and will give you homework so you can practice on your own. You are welcome to join any time. Feel free to attend every week or drop in when it fits your schedule. Contact the Project Read office for more information. Hope to see you there!
