On
Thursday, June 21, we held our annual Learner & Tutor Recognition
Celebration. Emcees Laurie Levine and Stacey Stokes deftly introduced
the speakers. Former Project Read learner Torrance Dominguez told
of his success through City College and onto Morgan State University
in Baltimore this fall. Stories told by tutoring pairs Moana Miglietta
& Deb Werner, Deborah Adams & Danielle Jatlow, Dexter Wiley & Susan
Fink, and Edwin Caughell & Susan Stevens brought laughter and tears,
and showed the dedication that learners and tutors bring to this
program.
We presented awards to tutors for
distinguished service. For 10 years of service, awards went to Katy
Colpetzer and JoAnn Lopez. For 5 years, awards went to Barbara Angus,
John Gildersleeve, Annette Lee, Aileen Regan, and Andrea Weiss.
Linda Noftle was given an award for implementing her weekly math
class; and Katy Colpetzer, Abby Heald, and Jason Siroonian received
Mighty Mouse Awards for weekly computer lab tutoring.
The celebration was dedicated to the
memory of Charles Smith, a learner who recently passed on. |
