We
are very pleased to announce that Leon Veal, Project Read’s Outreach
Coordinator and our very own Evangelist for Literacy, has
recently completed the required course work to earn a Bachelor’s Degree
from New College in San Francisco. It’s been a hectic year and a half
for Leon who continued to maintain a busy schedule at Project Read while
attending classes one weekend each month and completing large numbers
of reading and writing assignments.
As many of you know, Leon came to Project
Read as a learner in 1994, and within two years was hired as an outreach
assistant for the program. Before long, he took over the job as Outreach
Coordinator. Besides his recruitment and public awareness activities,
Leon is also responsible for conducting all orientation sessions for
new learners entering the program. His personal experience as a Project
Read learner and his proven commitment to his own educational goals
make him an unparalleled advocate and role model for adult learners
in our program.
I know I speak for the entire Project
Read community — staff, tutors, learners, and community partners
in congratulating Leon on this magnificent accomplishment.
