I Thought I Was In Trouble!
by Victoria Sanchez

Lightning strikes

The other day I got a package in the mail from Project Read.  I looked at it and I thought I was in trouble.  But when we opened it at school, I was surprised to see many letters.
I told my story at the tutor training and told how I came to Project Read.  I have dyslexia and, after I became a widow, my son Michael told me about it.
The letters I got were from the tutors at the training.  They made me so happy and inspired me to continue my studies.  The people who wrote to me gave me so much support and this never happened to me before.  I want to thank them all.
     Happy holidays to everybody!

What I Like to Do
by Elfrieda Partlow

Elfrieda at the computer

I like to draw cartoon characters because I think it’s fun and because it’s what I do in my spare time.  As soon as I get my GED, I plan on going to the main campus of San Francisco City College and getting a basic drawing class and hopefully getting an AA degree in that subject.  Some people have told me that I’m very good, even though I copy other people’s drawings.  I wish I could think of my own cartoons, but every time I try, it doesn’t look right.  Maybe I’ll try doing it on the computer one of these days.  I’ve bought books on drawing and even went to the library to borrow and make copies of some of the books.  I even have a drafting board at home that I work on in my spare time when I’m not doing homework.  I hope one of these days I will be able to draw some cartoon characters of my own.
