Cigarettes: So Hard to Quit
by Carlos Soto

I began smoking cigarettes when I was eleven years old and today I am
57 years old. I have been smoking cigarettes for 46 years. Today I have
it.
The following is what I did to kick the nicotine
habit:
-
I walk one or two miles (or more) everyday.
-
I drink plenty of water because water is a cleanser.
-
I chew gum.
-
I fill my bathtub with hot water, as hot as I can stand. I lay in the tub
and meditate. The hot water opens your pores and the craving for nicotine
will be released.
Also, women, if you quit smoking, you will get
prettier then you were. |

My First Novel
by Will Garcia
My name is Will Garcia and I just finished reading my first novel cover
to cover. I feel good about it. It took me five months to read it. At first,
it was a work assignment, then it became a fun assignment. I have not read
a book cover to cover before. I didn’t think I could do it, but I did and
it was worth it. It felt like I just ran a long distance run.
The book was called The Client by John Grisham.
It was about a boy who witnesses a suicide, a lawyer and a murder that
happened a few years ago. The book was exciting from the beginning.
It was over two years since I started with
Project Read. When I first started I could just barely read the funnies
in the comics. Now I can read a novel. It’s still not easy but I did it.
It’s also good to walk down the street and read street signs, billboards
and newspapers. I don’t know what novel I will read next, but it will be
a good one.
Lastly, I have learned a lot of things from
Project Read. One is that you’re never too old to learn. It takes a lot
to learn how to read and write, but it can be done. Sometimes you want
to quit, but in the long run it’s worth it. I hope some day I can help
people like me who want to learn but are afraid to start. You have to begin
somewhere. |
