| The Crown Hotel was built in 1914 for the Hornang family.
I stay on the fifth floor overlooking Dolores Park with MUNI going across
it like a little worm. I can also see Mission High, Mission Dolores, Davies
Hospital, the Mint, the hills and houses. On the horizon I can see Twin
Peaks, Sutro Tower and Buena Vista Park.
A little cloud comes off the hills and a baby is born. It floats in, very close and low. The little cloud is followed by others. The dark one is dad, the white one mom, the pink ones are little girls, purple are from Mars. Also, there is a big yellow planet in a sea of blue. The sky is full of birds, some black, some brown, some pigeons and hawks. The seagulls fly by the window and sit on the fire escape; they have big orange beaks. I can see birds flying south in a V shape. People on the rooftops are taking time out—they’re on top of the world. I can see people in their homes: a lady cooking dinner, some people just laying in bed, a big fat man hanging clothes in his shorts. Weird! The sounds travel up and I can hear the clink, clink, rattle, rattle of the dishwasher at the Indian restaurant and music from the bar below. I can hear a siren going by setting off a car alarm, 300 people yelling—movie must be good at the Roxie. The yellow planet is setting on the hills and the first star shines. Once I saw Mars, it’s red. Venus was next to it. Once I also saw a comet. Sometime in the midnight hour the moon wakes me and my room is all lit up in moonlight. When the moon is sleeping, it’s dark and all I can see are house lights on the hills and stars. The lights and the stars are the same, like space in the Milky Way. The fog is coming in. Sutro Tower is a ship with red lights blinking. And like two ships in the ocean of our womb, we part over waves of falling stars. Super Lady Lorna, thanking you for your trouble. |
