I spent one month in Bangkok where I attended CODA and AA meetings.
Had dinner and lunch with friends. Did lunch at Oriental Hotel with a
friend from New England. Oriental Hotel is rated number one in the world
and is located besides a river.
Bangkok has all night bazaars. They
sell nearly everything here-cassettes, clothes, knifes, hats and anything
that you are looking for. There is a section called Patpong located on
the Silom road where you can find two large shopping complexes.
The red light district is in Patpong.
There are bars where the girls dance naked on top of the bar counters.
The girls can be rented for the night. There are plenty of sex shows to
be viewed here. There are also bars for boys. They are freely available
as the girls.
Bangkok has a lot of canals where you
can take boats from place to place and you can pass by someone’s living
room. In December they are opening the new rail track to ease traffic problems
in Bangkok.
I don’t do much sightseeing because
I have seen so much. The Grand Palace is located on the river Menam (Thai
for river) Chao Phraya. The palace is a spectacular sight to see.
Now on to Kuala Lumpur. I have been
to KL many, many times. It is a very modern city with the tallest buildings
in the world located here. And there is another tower which is the fourth
tallest structure in the world.
While I am typing this, I can hear the
Moslem prayer being chanted from some faraway mosque. It is evening here.
There are other sites that are worth visiting. There is the caves at Batu
Caves. There is a Hindu festival which is held here every year. Men paying
penance and performing rituals to their gods pierce forks through their
tongues and carry structures (needles piercing their skin) on their shoulders.
The city is very charming with many shopping centers. Some of them are
very exclusive and the merchandise comes from all over the world.
In Thailand, there was a man by the
name of Jim Thompson. He taught the Thai people about silk and they are
leaders in the silk technology. It was suspected that Jim Thompson was
in the CIA. He was very well known in Asia and throughout the world. He
took a vacation in Malaysia and on Easter Day, 1967, he disappeared while
supposedly on a stroll in the jungle-clad Cameron Highlands, central Malaysia.
In Bangkok you can visit his shop, the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company.
Very famous landmark in Bangkok.
It’s has been fun, fun, fun so far.
Meeting lots of new people. |
