Just as discussing a book heightens your experience of reading it, seeing a play presented live makes the printed word spring to life. The Wednesday Night Readers Book Club was fortunate to have five professional actors, all members of the Screen Actors Guild BookPALS Program (www.bookpals.net), present five brief scenes from Death of a Salesman at a recent meeting (this play was the monthly selection that the book club had just read). Even though the actors weren’t wearing costumes and were reading from scripts, they skillfully drew us into Arthur Miller’s famous play about a man whose lack of solid values brings him down. Afterwards the performers participated in a lively discussion of the play with the learners and tutors present, who agreed that seeing the performance made a huge difference in their enjoyment and understanding of the play. The Wednesday Night Readers wish to thank these talented actors: Carla Hatley, Elizabeth Benedict, Dana Kelly, Martin Ganapoler, and Peter Quintan, for generously giving their time to provide a spellbinding experience of a great American drama.
