Project Read Receives Isabel Allende Foundation Award

The Paula Award for Literacy to Project Read

Project Read recently received the Paula Award for Literacy given by the Isabel Allende Foundation. The award specifically cited the remarkable outreach work performed by Leon Veal in recruiting adult learners and volunteer tutors.
At a ceremony on March 9, 2002, Isabel Allende, author of Eva Luna, House of the Spirits, and Paula, presented the award to Leon, along with a check for $5,000.
The Marin Literacy Program also received an award for the exceptional work they perform in Marin County.
The Isabel Allende Foundation was created in 1996 as an homage to Paula Frias, Ms. Allende's daughter, who passed away in 1992.
