Monica’s Life
by Monica Barrera

I was born on October 12 1966. I got sick when I was two. As I got older, I continued to have seizures.
As the years went on, I was getting older and I wasn’t getting that much sicker. My mom, my brothers and sister have been always there whenever things had gone wrong. My family had always made me stronger than I was. Still, today, I do everything on my own. I’ve been working for two years, doing well and enjoying it. Working makes my mom proud of me. She is happy for my achievements, which include working, learning to read and write and living a productive life.
Since February, I have improved my reading, writing and spelling. I have been happier with the way my life has gone since those improvements began. My family and friends tell me how happy they are that I am achieving my goals.
I look forward to going to restaurants and ordering from the menu without needing help. I look forward to reading the referral lists at work without needing help. I look forward to dedicating ‘My Life’s Story’ to my mom.
