Wanted: Unsung Hero Awards Nominations

Nominations are currently being accepted for the San Francisco Public Library’s annual Unsung Hero Awards, celebrating the people who give unselfishly and with little recognition to make life better for others in the African American community. The deadline for nominations is October 25. Nomination forms can be found at www.sfpl.org, in the branch libraries or the African American Center of the Main Library.

This year’s Unsung Hero Awards, celebrating the 20th year of the program, will be held on November 23 in the Koret Auditorium of the Main Library, 1 – 4 p.m. The theme for this year’s program is the celebration of Carter G. Woodson, the father of African American History month.

Once again, the program will be hosted by comedian and motivational speaker Veronica Dangerfield. There will performances by the Praise N Sign dancers, dancer Kathleen Franklin and professional singer Angela Dean-Baham. Music will be provided by jazz musician Terrence Brewer.
