Telephone Notification Service

New Phone System Alerts Patrons of Holds, Overdue Notices

Don’t have an e-mail address? Don’t want to wait for the postal service to deliver your hold pickup notice? Beginning March 2006, the Library will launch a new automated Telephone Notification Service (TNS) alerting patrons of hold pickups and overdue materials.

Patrons can sign up right now for the free service at the Main Library, or at any branch. Beginning March 2006, Patrons with Internet access can change their notice preference by logging into their Library account, choosing “Modify Personal Information,” and then clicking on the “telephone” radio button. However, patrons wishing to use the telephone service must remove their e-mail address from their record to avoid e-mail notification.

The TNS is a sophisticated system that can discern between a live human voice and an answering machine recording, and knows when to appropriately leave its notification. If TNS is unable to leave a phone notification, the Library will then send the notice via regular mail.
