San Francisco Public Library, along with other Bay Area libraries, kicked off last month a public awareness campaign aimed at reconnecting communities with their local libraries. The “Free2” campaign encourages library users and supporters to think about all the ways libraries have empowered them.
Libraries have helped give users the freedom to connect, create, imagine, explore, succeed, and much more.
An online Free2 contest asks the public to describe, in 25 words or less, what they are free to do—or be—thanks to their local library. Contestants will have a chance to win one of 10 grand prizes, which includes a FLIP video camera and an iPod Shuffle.
The contest can be found at www.sfpl.org or www.WeAreFree2.org. Deadline is May 15.
“The Free2 contest and campaign is a chance for us to invite more dialogue about how libraries can continue to grow, improve and help meet our communities’ most pressing challenges,” says San Francisco City Librarian Luis Herrera.
