Services:

Volunteers, under the supervision of Library staff, provide valuable assistance in a variety of ways:
  • Serve as greeters or docents in the Main Library Jewett Gallery (exhibition space)
  • Serve as greeters in the Main Library Gay & Lesbian or African American centers
  • Introduce users to library’s computers and electronic information resources
  • Provide clerical support on special projects
  • Lead tours of the Main Library
  • Distribute and tabulate Library surveys (generally in Spring)

Most assignments through Volunteer Services require a minimum commitment of three hours per week for six-months.

Short-term assignments are occasionally available to active Library volunteers, but because of the nature of Library volunteer assignments, short-term community service projects lasting only five or ten hours are not available.

For more information call the Library Human Resources (Personnel) Office at 415-557-4585.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a San Francisco Public Library volunteer.
